Study Shows Extra Virgin Olive Oil Helps Prevent Dementia-Related Death

As we age, there are many problems we would like to avoid. One of the most pressing problems is dementia. Dementia refers to a group of symptoms that revolve around an impaired ability to remember and problem-solve. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia and over 6 million seniors in the USA suffer from it.

As Alzheimer’s progresses, it can damage the brain, which controls bodily functions such as breathing. It also weakens the body’s ability to recover from various health problems.

Luckily, there’s a natural preventative that can lower your chances of death from dementia! A new study from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health shows that higher olive oil intake is associated with a lower risk of dementia-related mortality. More than 92,000 study participants were tracked for close to 30 years. The study states: “In 2 large US prospective cohorts of men and women, we found that participants who consumed more than 7 g/day of olive oil had 28% lower risk of dying from dementia compared with participants who never or rarely consumed olive oil, regardless of the quality of the diet.” (1). That is a big drop in risk!

A separate 2024 study from the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2) finds that Extra Virgin Olive Oil and phenolic compounds “exert neuroprotective effects” and that studies “reveal a consistent trend” whereby consuming olive oil is connected with a decreased risk of Alzheimer and other dementias.

The science is in! Olive Oil is helpful in so many ways. All the more reason to enjoy Extra Virgin Olive Oil consistently. We are glad to offer PURA GROVE Award-Winning Olive Oil (EVOO) for your health and pleasure and we wish you increased robust longevity.
