Chan School of Public Health shows that higher olive oil intake is associated with a lower risk of dementia-related mortality. More than 92,000 study participants were tracked for close to 30 years. The study states: “In 2 large US prospective cohorts of men and women, we found that participants who consumed more than 7 g/day of olive oil had 28% lower risk of dying from dementia compared with participants who never or rarely consumed olive oil, regardless of the quality of the diet.” (1). That is a big drop in risk!
A separate 2024 study from the International Journal of Molecular Sciences (2) finds that Extra Virgin Olive Oil and phenolic compounds “exert neuroprotective effects” and that studies “reveal a consistent trend” whereby consuming olive oil is connected with a decreased risk of Alzheimer and other dementias.
